Shirley Bishop - Since 1979

The doors of the Agape House opened wide in the fall of 1979 to anyone who traveled the streets of Downtown Mobile after dark. Staffed and funded primarily by volunteers from Life Church the “coffee house ministry” was a person could get a free cup of coffee and a home-made treat on any Friday or Saturday night, more than that it was a place that many visitors met Christ and experienced the transformation that follows when a person is born into the family of God. As Downtown Mobile experienced a renewal in business and commerce the needs of the night time community changed. Today the Agape House serves as a church for the homeless, transits and those suffering with addiction. Except for a brief period in 1983 Shirley Bishop has make sure that the doors of the Agape House have remained wide open. Over the years the Agape House has served the Kingdom of God as training ground. Several Pastors, Missionaries and many church members look back to their time of service and see how God used the ministry to develop their ministry skills. Today the ministry is located at 202 St. Michael St. and is supported by Life Church and other churches and ministries which aid Sister Shirley as she continually offers the same saving grace of a loving God. If you desire to become involved in the Agape House ministry, you can contact Sister Shirley Bishop at 251- 490-1671.

A glimpse into the Agape House ministry to the homeless located in downtown Mobile, Alabama. This is a very special outreach to those who are down and out. It is easy to turn our backs on the needs presented by the homeless but Ms. Shirley Bishop has extended a loving hand to them since 1977. The Agape house was birthed out of Life Church of Mobile (formerly Lott Road Church) and is supported by them and other ministries in the area.
